Introduction
The two routes are priced in different units. ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) charges per exam, spread over the years you take to finish. An MBA at a top institute such as IIM (Indian Institute of Management) Bangalore charges one fee up front, then adds two years in which you are not drawing a salary. Counting what each route takes in fees and in salary you give up is what makes the decision clear.
A more useful question than which is better is which problem you are solving. If it is a recognised technical credential in accounting, audit, tax or financial reporting, that is ACCA's job. If it is a move into general management, consulting or a different function, that is what an MBA is designed for.
Below you will find a side-by-side table, a cost worksheet you can fill in with your own salary, the rules on ACCA exemptions, and the route that combines both. iProledge coaches ACCA, so we benefit if you choose it.
Key takeaways
- Choose ACCA if you want a finance career and want to keep earning while you study. Choose an MBA if you want general management and can fund two years out of work.
- The IIM Bangalore MBA (PGP 2026-28 batch) costs ₹26,00,000 for two years, and fees vary by institute. Add the salary you give up and the real figure is higher.
- Under current rules, ACCA can exempt you from up to nine exams, never from the four Strategic Professional exams, and every exemption carries a fee.
- ACCA first and an MBA later is a documented route, with credit towards one MBA for ACCA members.
Should a finance graduate choose ACCA or an MBA?
ACCA and an MBA are not substitutes. ACCA is a professional qualification: currently 13 exams, an Ethics and Professional Skills module, and 36 months of relevant work experience with 9 performance objectives signed off (ACCA qualification structure). An MBA (Master of Business Administration) is a postgraduate degree. If you are weighing ACCA against the Indian route, read our CA or ACCA quiz as well.
Is ACCA changing from 13 exams to 11 in 2027?
A student starting now will cross into the new structure part-way, so exemption and fee rules may change. The 13 exams, the nine-exam exemption cap and the four Strategic Professional exams on this page are the current rules. Confirm the final exam list, exemption and fee rules with ACCA before you register.
How do ACCA with iProledge and a two-year MBA compare at a glance?
The tables on this page use the same labels for both. The MBA column uses IIM Bangalore's Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), its two-year MBA, as a labelled example. Prices are as of October 2026.
How much does each route really cost, and what should you add up?
Add up the programme fee and the salary you give up. For an MBA the sum is the fee plus roughly two years of income; for ACCA it is ACCA's own fees plus coaching, while your salary continues. The worksheet below is our model, not an official figure. Our ACCA total cost calculator, ACCA course fees page and CA vs MBA vs CFA ROI comparison go further.
ACCA route = ACCA's fees (registration, annual subscription, each exam entry, each exemption and the ethics module, all set in pounds on ACCA's price list) + coaching for each level you take + any resits.
MBA route = programme fee + (annual salary × 2).
Illustration. Assume, for illustration only, a salary of ₹6,00,000 a year. The IIM Bangalore route is ₹26,00,000 + (2 × ₹6,00,000) = ₹38,00,000. That is before the ₹30,000 mess advance each term and the applicable taxes on top, and it leaves out the ₹30,000 deposit, which is refundable. The fee is for the 2026-28 batch, so confirm the fee for the batch you can apply to. Replace ₹6,00,000 with your own figure.
On the coaching side, coaching for all three levels is ₹50,000 + ₹1,50,000 + (4 × ₹30,000) = ₹3,20,000 (our price list, October 2026), about 12% of the IIM Bangalore fee (₹3,20,000 ÷ ₹26,00,000 = 12.3%), before ACCA's own fees. This is a like-for-unlike comparison: the MBA fee includes hostel room rent, and ACCA's own fees are extra.
One more difference: an MBA's clock is fixed at two years. ACCA membership needs 36 months of relevant experience, so in our view the experience, not the exams, often sets how soon you can call yourself a member. Doing the experience in a job while you sit exams is one way to run the two together.
How many ACCA exams can a graduate skip?
Under current rules, ACCA can exempt you from up to nine of its Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills exams. It never exempts the four Strategic Professional exams, and it does not exempt on the basis of work experience (ACCA exemption information).
Each exemption you claim has a fee. Exemptions are conditional, and ACCA assesses your degree before it awards them (ACCA exemptions calculator). So do not budget on a number you read elsewhere. Run the calculator with your own degree, and read our guide to ACCA exemptions and ACCA eligibility for Indian students first.
Under current rules the Strategic Professional level cannot be skipped, so every ACCA student sits those four exams. We price that level per paper at ₹30,000.
Can you do ACCA first and an MBA later?
Yes. ACCA members can take the Oxford Brookes Global MBA, which is blended: study online or in one-week on-campus blocks, at about 15 hours a week. Members can claim up to 30 credits for finance and accounting modules, finish in 18 to 24 months and pay a discounted fee (ACCA's MBA programme page).
Confirm the exact fee with Oxford Brookes. Our view is that the order matters. ACCA first gives you the technical base and a salary while you study. An MBA later lets you bring years of experience into the classroom.
If pay is on your mind, our ACCA salary page explains why it varies by role and experience.
When might an MBA suit you better?
An MBA suits you better in three narrow cases. In each, the degree does something ACCA does not try to do. Taking ACCA first and then the Oxford Brookes Global MBA covers the case of already holding a finance qualification. If you are not yet sure of your direction after your BCom (Bachelor of Commerce), courses after BCom lays out the routes.
Why choose iProledge for ACCA coaching?
Each reason in the "Choose iProledge if" list ties to something you can check before you pay. You can pay by UPI, net banking, cards or flexible payment plans. You can also attend a free demo class and talk to our career advisors before joining.

Our verdict
For a finance graduate who wants an accounting, audit, tax or reporting career while keeping a salary, ACCA with iProledge coaching at ₹3,20,000 across all three levels is the stronger choice against a ₹26,00,000 two-year MBA.
