Courses After BCom: Which Route Fits Your Marks and Budget
Courses after BCom that lead to a professional qualification are CA, CS, CMA, CMA USA and ACCA. Your BCom skips the foundation stage of most, so marks and budget decide.

Key takeaways
- Choose by the work you want, then test your marks: CA direct entry needs 55 per cent in a commerce degree, while CS, CMA India and CMA USA set no minimum percentage.
- CA Intermediate by direct entry is the cheapest entry stage of the three Indian routes, but the gaps between them are small.
- CMA USA and ACCA are priced partly in dollars and pounds, and the IMA rate depends on whether you are a full-time student.
- Attend the free demo class before you pay, because our fees are not refunded once paid.

Your BCom has already opened the first door on every professional route. What differs is what the next door costs and how hard the exam behind it is. In May 2026, CA Intermediate, the level a BCom graduate can enter directly, passed 10.25 per cent of Group I candidates, 16.11 per cent of Group II candidates and 8.47 per cent of those who sat both groups, according to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) admits graduates straight to CS Executive. The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) admits them straight to CMA Intermediate. CMA USA needs a bachelor's degree to enrol with the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), and two years of relevant experience to certify. ACCA gives exemptions for papers your degree already covered, and the number depends on your university.
This page gives you a table that matches route to goal, four pass-or-fail tests on your marks and degree, and a cost table in rupees.
iProledge publishes this page and coaches all five routes. Each rule links to the official regulator's page (ICAI, ICSI, ICMAI, IMA or ACCA).
Which course after BCom suits the work you want?
Match the course to the daily work you want: CA for audit, tax and practice; CS for company law and compliance; CMA India for costing and internal finance; CMA USA for finance roles in global companies; ACCA for international accounting and reporting.
| If you want to... | Route | What it means in practice |
|---|---|---|
| Audit, tax, or run a practice in India | CA | The longest route: articleship (practical training) after you register, then Final. |
| Work in company law, governance, compliance | CS | Graduates enter at Executive; Professional follows. |
| Work in costing, budgeting, internal finance in India | CMA (India) | Graduates enter at Intermediate. |
| Work in finance teams of global companies | CMA USA | Two exam parts, plus two years of relevant experience to certify. |
| Work in international accounting, reporting, audit | ACCA | Up to 13 exams, fewer with exemptions. |
If you want a management degree or a quick skill instead, the section on MBA, MCom and short courses below covers it.
What does your BCom let you skip in each route?
Your BCom lets you skip the foundation stage in CA, CS and CMA India, gives you the degree CMA USA requires, and may earn ACCA exemptions. Run these four tests before choosing.

- CA marks test
Is your BCom aggregate at least 55 per cent? Pass: you can register for CA Intermediate directly, for both groups together, and study for eight months before the exam (ICAI); steps are in our CA Inter registration guide. Fail: register for CA Foundation first, or take one of the other routes. Non-commerce graduates need 60 per cent, so 54.96 per cent in BCom is a fail.
- CS and CMA India degree test
Do you hold your graduation result? Pass: ICSI admits graduates directly to the CS Executive programme, and ICMAI admits graduates in any discipline other than fine arts to Intermediate. Fail (result not out yet): ICMAI allows provisional admission for degree candidates awaiting results, with 18 months to convert it; for CS, ICSI's schedule offers the entrance test (CSEET) to those who are not yet graduates.
- CMA USA experience test
Do you hold a bachelor's degree and can you work in a relevant finance or accounting role for two years at some point? Pass: you can enrol and certify (IMA). Fail (no such role possible): you can sit the exams but cannot certify, so choose CS or CMA India instead.
- ACCA exemption test
Does ACCA's exemption calculator show at least one exemption for your university and degree? Pass: count the exams exempted, then add ACCA's exemption fee for each and drop those exams from your budget. Fail (none listed): budget for all 13 exams. ACCA has three levels: Applied Knowledge (3 exams), Applied Skills (6) and Strategic Professional (4). It awards no exemptions at Strategic Professional. Our guide to ACCA exemptions for BCom graduates shows what graduates can usually claim.
What does each route cost from a BCom?
CA Intermediate by direct entry is the cheapest entry stage from a BCom, and CMA USA and ACCA cost more because each is a whole qualification with fees in dollars or pounds. The table shows rupee totals as of October 2026.

| Route | Covers | Official fees | [iProledge tuition](link:iproledge-course-fees) | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CA Intermediate, direct entry | Entry level | ₹18,000 (ICAI) | ₹50,000 (CA fees) | ₹68,000 |
| CMA Intermediate | Entry level | ₹23,100 (ICMAI) | ₹50,000 | ₹73,100 |
| CS Executive, direct entry | Entry level | ₹18,900 to ₹23,900 (ICSI) | ₹50,000 | ₹68,900 to ₹73,900 |
| CMA USA, weekend batch, professional rate | Whole qualification | $1,685 ≈ ₹1,61,337 | ₹60,000 | ≈ ₹2,21,300 |
| CMA USA, weekday batch, professional rate | Whole qualification | $1,685 ≈ ₹1,61,337 | ₹80,000 | ≈ ₹2,41,300 |
| CMA USA, weekend batch, student rate | Whole qualification | $1,088 ≈ ₹1,04,175 | ₹60,000 | ≈ ₹1,64,200 |
| CMA USA, weekday batch, student rate | Whole qualification | $1,088 ≈ ₹1,04,175 | ₹80,000 | ≈ ₹1,84,200 |
| ACCA, full tuition with Applied Knowledge exempt | Whole qualification | £2,449 ≈ ₹3,09,800 | ₹2,70,000 (ACCA fees) | ≈ ₹5,79,800 |
This is our model, not an official figure. The working:
- CS. ICSI's fee schedule effective 15 April 2026 lists ₹18,900 for the Executive Programme, or ₹23,900 where the ₹5,000 CSEET exemption fee applies. Confirm which applies to you on the ICSI website before paying.
- CMA India and CS. Totals exclude exam fees. The CMA India total also excludes ICMAI's separate student registration fee.
- CMA USA. The professional rate is $295 membership + $300 entrance fee + 2 exam parts at $545 each = $1,685. The student rate is $49 + $225 + 2 × $407 = $1,088 (IMA fee article). IMA gives student rates to full-time students at an accredited institution. A BCom student still enrolled may qualify, and a graduate not in full-time study pays the professional rate. Rupee amounts use ₹95.749 per dollar, the RBI reference rate for 12 October 2026. See CMA USA exam fees for detail.
- ACCA. We used the December 2026 standard rates in ACCA's India fee table: £30 registration, £140 annual subscription, £84 per Applied Knowledge exemption, £151 per Applied Skills exam, £268 for Strategic Business Leader, £191 for Strategic Business Reporting and £191 per option exam. The total is £30 + 3 × £140 (three years of subscription, our assumption) + 3 × £84 + 6 × £151 + (£268 + £191 + 2 × £191) = £2,449. Rupees use ₹126.50 per pound, the closing rate on 12 October 2026. Tuition is our Skill level (₹1,50,000) plus 4 Professional papers at ₹30,000 each. An Applied Skills exemption costs £111 against a £151 exam fee, so each extra one saves £40 in ACCA fees. Totals exclude retakes. To run your own case, use our ACCA total cost calculator; for CA, use our CA exam cost planner.
Against CMA USA, which is also a whole qualification, ACCA costs roughly ₹3.5 lakh to ₹4.2 lakh more on these inputs.
Which rule mismatches send BCom graduates back to the start?
Three rule mismatches cost BCom graduates time: applying for CA direct entry below the percentage line, expecting CMA USA to count towards CA, and assuming a fixed number of ACCA exemptions.
- Below the line. The ICAI rule is a minimum of 55 per cent in a commerce degree. CS, CMA India and CMA USA set no minimum percentage, so a lower result closes one door, not all of them.
- CMA USA is not a CA entry ticket. ICAI's direct entry list names graduates with the required marks and candidates who have passed the Intermediate level of ICSI or ICMAI. CMA USA is not on it.
- A fixed ACCA exemption count. ACCA assesses the university and programme, so two graduates with the same degree name can receive different exemptions. Check the calculator before you budget.
In our view, choose the route whose entry rule you pass today and whose daily work you would still enjoy in five years, then look at cost.
Should you choose an MBA, MCom or a short course instead?
Choose an MBA or MCom if you want a management or research degree rather than a professional qualification, and a short certificate if you need one skill quickly. Each programme sets its own entry exam and minimum marks, so read its admission page before applying.
A certificate in Tally, GST or Excel adds a skill, not a qualification, and works best beside a professional route. Our guide on whether your BCom portfolio can pass a finance hiring test shows how to present those skills.
