Key takeaways
- 01As of October 2026, registering for both CMA exam parts costs $1,088 as a student and $1,685 as a professional. At ₹96.8 to the dollar that is about ₹1,05,318 and ₹1,63,108. It covers one year's membership, the entrance fee and two exam parts.
- 02A failed part adds $345 (student) or $460 (professional) to retake, with no second entrance fee. If the retake falls in a second membership year, add that year's membership too: $49 (student) or $295 (professional).
- 03Choosing the wrong member category swings the registration total by $597 (about ₹57,790), and the entrance fee is not refundable, so enrol only when you can start studying.
- 04Coaching and study material are not part of IMA's fees. Ask any provider for a written rupee price that separates its fee from IMA's.

A CMA USA candidate in India pays a dollar fee whose rupee price shifts every day. IMA, the Institute of Management Accountants, which awards the CMA, charges professionals $545 for each exam part. The rupee amount depends on the US dollar to Indian rupee rate on the day you pay.
The fee has more parts than the exam charge: annual membership, a one-time entrance fee, two exam fees, and later costs such as a retake or a second membership year. Left out, those make a budget fail halfway through the course.
This page gives you IMA's current fees, a rupee total at a dated rate, the costs that arrive after you register, and a worksheet to fill in with your own numbers, so you know the full amount before you pay anything.
It covers what you pay IMA. Coaching is a separate bill, and we show how to keep the two apart.
What are the CMA USA exam fees for 2026?
As of October 2026, a student pays $1,088 and a professional pays $1,685 to register for both CMA parts: annual membership, a one-time entrance fee and two exam fees. IMA charges in dollars. The rupee column is our calculation: dollars multiplied by ₹96.8, the US dollar to Indian rupee rate on 9 October 2026, rounded to the nearest rupee.
| Line | Professional | Student |
|---|---|---|
| IMA membership (per year) | $295 (₹28,556) | $49 (₹4,743) |
| CMA entrance fee (once) | $300 (₹29,040) | $225 (₹21,780) |
| Exam fee, Part 1 | $545 (₹52,756) | $407 (₹39,398) |
| Exam fee, Part 2 | $545 (₹52,756) | $407 (₹39,398) |
Registration total | $1,685 (₹1,63,108) | $1,088 (₹1,05,318) |
Membership prices come from IMA's membership page. Entrance and exam fees come from IMA's CMA enrolment page.
To check that any fee page is current, run three tests:
- Per-part exam fee. Pass: it shows $545 (professional) and $407 (student). Some guides still show $495 for professionals, which makes their totals $100 too low.
- One category throughout. Pass: the totals are $1,088 for a student and $1,685 for a professional. Fail: lines mixed from both categories.
- Checkout match. Pass: the amount on IMA's payment page matches line by line. Fail: any difference, in which case trust the checkout.
What extra costs follow IMA registration?
After registration, three costs can arrive: a retake, another year of membership, and rupee movement. A retake needs a new exam registration, not a new entrance fee, and costs $460 for a professional or $345 for a student per part.
IMA prices membership per year, $295 for a professional and $49 for a student, so each extra year adds that amount. Here is a failed Part 2, worked out by us at ₹96.8:

| Scenario | Student | Professional |
|---|---|---|
| Retake inside the first membership year | $1,088 + $345 = $1,433 (₹1,38,714) | $1,685 + $460 = $2,145 (₹2,07,636) |
| Retake falls in a second membership year | $1,433 + $49 = $1,482 (₹1,43,458) | $2,145 + $295 = $2,440 (₹2,36,192) |
You have three years to pass both exam parts, counted from enrolment, which is when you pay the entrance fee. A retake usually means waiting for a later testing window, so budget for the second-year row if your plan runs past twelve months.
The rupee is the other unknown. It was down about 9% against the dollar over the twelve months to 9 October 2026, and the dollar fee does not adjust. We budget with a 5% cushion, shown in the worksheet below.
Read the final payment page before you confirm, because any tax or bank charge sits on top of the table. As an illustration only, not an IMA figure: if 18% GST (Goods and Services Tax) were added, ₹1,05,318 × 1.18 = ₹1,24,275 for a student and ₹1,63,108 × 1.18 = ₹1,92,467 for a professional.
Should you register as a student or a professional?
Register as a student if you are enrolled in at least six credit hours at a college or university, and as a professional if you are not. IMA's student membership page sets that rule. IMA may verify your enrolment at any time, and a school email address makes verification quicker. If your Indian degree does not report credit hours, ask IMA once before you pay.
The category matters because it moves the registration total by $597, about ₹57,790 (our calculation: $1,685 minus $1,088, times ₹96.8). Student membership is $49 a year against $295.
If you are in college or just past Class 12, our guide to starting CMA USA after Class 12 covers the entry route.
Timing matters too. Paying the entrance fee starts your three-year window, and IMA states that the entrance fee is not refundable. Our recommendation is to pay once you have a study plan and a target testing window for Part 1.
Retake risk should shape that plan. Our guide on how tough the CMA USA exam is for Indian candidates will help you decide how much time to allow.
How do you calculate your own CMA USA total?
Fill in the worksheet below with a live exchange rate, and you will have a figure you can defend. One lakh is 100,000 rupees. The examples use ₹96.8 per dollar and a retake in a second membership year.

| Line | What to enter | Student example | Professional example |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | Annual membership | $49 | $295 |
| B | Entrance fee | $225 | $300 |
| C | Exam fee × 2 | $814 | $1,090 |
| D | Registration total (A+B+C) | $1,088 | $1,685 |
| E | Retake reserve, one part | $345 | $460 |
| F | Extra membership years (A × years) | $49 | $295 |
| G | Dollar total (D+E+F) | $1,482 | $2,440 |
| H | Today's US dollar to Indian rupee rate | ₹96.8 | ₹96.8 |
| I | Rupees (G × H) | ₹1,43,458 | ₹2,36,192 |
| J | With 5% cushion (I × 1.05) | ₹1,50,630 | ₹2,48,002 |
Run these checks as you go
- Category. Pass: you meet IMA's written student rule (six credit hours at a college or university) or you registered as a professional. Fail: you registered as a student without meeting the rule.
- Dollar lines. Pass: every line matches IMA's checkout on the day you pay. Fail: any line differs, so update the sheet.
- Rate. Pass: you used a live rate from the day you pay. Fail: a rate copied from a blog.
- Tax and charges. Pass: you added whatever extra the final payment page shows. Fail: you assumed none.
- Clock. Pass: you wrote the date three years after enrolling and a plan to pass both parts before it. Fail: no date written down.

How should you price coaching next to IMA's fees?
Price coaching as its own line, in rupees, in writing, separate from the IMA dollars. IMA's fees buy membership, enrolment and exam registration. They do not buy teaching, question banks or mock exams.
Ask any provider what its fee covers: live classes, recordings, a question bank, mock tests, doubt support and help planning a retake. Our guide to CMA USA study material shows what you need and what to skip. Before you pay anyone, run the checks in how to verify a US CMA provider.
This is how we work. We quote our coaching fee in rupees and keep IMA's dollar fees on a separate line, so you can see both totals. Our CMA USA coaching runs online, onsite in Bangalore or blended, with handmade notes, a personalised study planner, a question bank, personal mentorship, webinars and 24/7 support. You can see our full course list.
Ask us for the current coaching fee for your batch. Call +91 8792571811 or +91 7899084146, or contact us, and bring your filled-in worksheet. We will check it against our quote and tell you what to expect.
