CA Foundation Result: When ICAI Declares It and What to Do Next
The CA Foundation result for September 2026 had not been declared by ICAI as of 24 October 2026. Past sittings took 42 to 44 days after the last paper.

Key takeaways
As of 24 October 2026, ICAI's announcements page had no Foundation September 2026 result notice. The last three Foundation results came 42 to 44 days after the final paper, so only an ICAI notice that names a date counts.
Open the result from the link in ICAI's own notice and enter your registration number and roll number. To pass, you need at least 40 in every paper and at least 200 out of 400, in the same sitting (ICAI, About the Foundation Course).
- If you miss, file the January 2027 exam form first, then decide on verification. Verification costs ₹50 per paper and checks totalling, not the quality of your answers.
- As of 24 October 2026 there are 71 days to the first January 2027 paper on 3 January. Every day the result is late comes off your preparation time, so spend it on the papers that cost you marks.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) posted its notice nine days before the May 2026 Chartered Accountancy (CA) Foundation result and six days before the January 2026 one. On that pattern, a Foundation result before about 30 October would be unusual. This is our inference.
Waiting is easier with a rule of thumb, and ICAI's own record supplies one. Its two most recent Foundation results were each preceded by a short notice naming the day and the website. That pattern tells you when to keep waiting and which notice to trust.
The wait is only half the problem. If you miss the pass mark, the deadline for the January 2027 exam form is likely to close before marks verification finishes, so you have to decide on result day. Below are the timeline and a decision table to use when the scorecard opens, plus what to do with the weeks that follow.
When will ICAI declare the CA Foundation result for September 2026?
ICAI had not announced a date as of 24 October 2026. That day was 45 days after the last Foundation paper on 9 September 2026 (Careers360 exam schedule). The last three results arrived after 42 to 44 days. The 22 October 2026 item on ICAI's announcements page is the Intermediate result, not Foundation.
| Sitting | Last paper | Result declared | Days between |
|---|---|---|---|
| September 2025 | 22 Sep 2025 | 3 Nov 2025 | 42 |
| January 2026 | 24 Jan 2026 | 8 Mar 2026 | 43 |
| May 2026 | 20 May 2026 | 3 Jul 2026 | 44 |
| September 2026 | 9 Sep 2026 | not declared at 24 Oct | 45 so far |
This is our count. We took the date of the last Foundation paper and the date of the result, and counted the days between them. The sources are:
- last papers: theaccountant-online for September 2025, Business Standard for January 2026 and Careers360 for May 2026;
- results: Business Standard for 3 November 2025, ICAI for 8 March 2026 and ICAI for 3 July 2026.
Three sittings are a thin sample, so a rumoured date is worth nothing until ICAI posts a notice.
ICAI gives notice before it declares. For May 2026 it posted on 24 June for a result "by the afternoon of 3rd July 2026", nine days ahead. For January 2026 it posted on 2 March for 8 March, six days ahead. Our inference from those two notices: a Foundation result before about 30 October would be unusual, and the day the notice appears is the day to start counting.
Where do you check your CA Foundation result?
Check it on the ICAI results site using the link in ICAI's own result notice, with your registration number and roll number. ICAI's notices have named different addresses, so follow the one in the current notice and ignore any site that asks for anything else.
The January 2026 notice pointed to icai.nic.in/caresult/, and the May 2026 notice pointed to caresults.icai.org. Both asked for the registration number and the roll number (ICAI, March 2026; ICAI, June 2026). Keep both numbers from your admit card ready before the notice appears.
What marks do you need to pass CA Foundation?
You pass with at least 40 marks in each of the four papers and at least 200 out of 400 in total, both in the same sitting. ICAI's wording is that a candidate passes if they obtain "at one sitting a minimum of 40% marks in each paper and a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate" (ICAI, About the Foundation Course). A total of 200 with 38 in one paper is a fail. A 40 in one paper means you need an average of 53.3 across the other three, because (200 − 40) ÷ 3 = 53.3.
Because ICAI counts a pass only at one sitting, marks from a failed attempt do not carry over, and a retake means all four papers again.
For context, ICAI's May 2026 release shows 18,124 of 90,217 candidates passed, 20.09%. Our CA Foundation pass percentage guide covers the sitting-by-sitting rates.

Should you verify your marks or file the January 2027 form first?
File the January 2027 form first, then verify if the shortfall justifies it. Our inference: verification outcomes are unlikely to arrive before the form closes on 16 November.
As of 24 October 2026, the January 2027 Foundation papers fall on 3, 5, 7 and 9 January 2027. The form opens on 3 November, closes on 16 November without a late fee and on 19 November with one, and a correction window runs from 20 to 22 November (ICAI examination notices, schedule dated 23 September 2026; Free Press Journal, reporting ICAI's schedule). As of 24 October 2026, the Foundation exam fee is ₹1,500 at Indian centres (Free Press Journal, reporting ICAI's notice).
For the January 2026 results, ICAI's window for verification, certified copies and inspection ran from 9 March to 7 April 2026, which is 30 days from the day after the result.
Our inference is that a window of that length, opening after the result, would run past the day the form closes, and the outcome would arrive later still. Waiting for verification before filing risks missing the January papers.
Verification is not re-marking. It checks totalling errors, unanswered questions and whether marks were carried forward correctly. Since January 2026 results, ICAI charges ₹50 per paper for verification and ₹100 per paper for certified copies.
Our recommendation: verify a paper scoring 36 to 39, or a total of 195 to 199; below 36 in any paper, treat it as a retake paper. Treat the January form as a separate, earlier step.
Which step comes first for your scorecard?
Use this table on result day, working from your paper-wise marks. The cut-offs for near misses are our recommendation, not an ICAI rule.
| Your scorecard (test) | Do first | Then |
|---|---|---|
| Pass: every paper is 40 or above and the total is 200 or above | Register for Intermediate: see our CA Inter registration guide | Start Intermediate planning |
| Near miss: no paper below 36, the total is 195 or above, and it is not a pass | File the January 2027 form | Verify each paper scoring 36 to 39, or every paper if the total is 195 to 199 (₹50 each) |
| Retake: any paper below 36, or the total below 195 | File the January 2027 form | Plan the retake from your weakest paper |
| Result not declared | Wait for an ICAI notice that names a date | Keep your admit card numbers ready |
Our CA Foundation exam dates guide and registration guide cover the form steps.
How do you use the weeks between the result and the January 2027 exam?
Start from the paper that cost you marks, not from the syllabus's first page. As of 24 October 2026 there are 71 days to the first January 2027 paper on 3 January (7 days left in October, 30 in November, 31 in December, 3 in January). Every day the result is late comes off your preparation time. That is enough to rebuild one or two weak papers if you begin the week the scorecard opens. Our CA Foundation 90-day plan is a starting point for the study schedule, and CA Foundation coaching fees compares the real total cost.

Frequently asked questions
ICAI's notices say "by the afternoon" of the result day, for example 3 July 2026 and 8 March 2026. Estimates of 10 a.m. are not from ICAI, so wait for the notice and the afternoon.
In a mock, you pass if every paper is 40 or above and the four papers add up to 200 or more, the same rule ICAI applies (ICAI). Our CA Foundation pass percentage guide adds the past pass rates.
Only if it finds a mistake. Verification checks totalling errors, unanswered questions and whether marks were carried forward correctly. It does not re-mark your answers. ICAI charges ₹50 per paper.
No. ICAI counts a pass only if both conditions are met at one sitting, so a retake means all four papers again (ICAI).
