CS Executive Study Material for December 2026: Edition Check
CS Executive study material for December 2026 means ICSI's seven Executive books plus its December 2026 supplements, with the standard Paper 7 Tax Laws file, not the one marked June 2027.
By Naveen J D, Founder · Updated 30 Oct 2026

Key takeaways
- Use ICSI’s seven Executive books plus the December 2026 supplements. The books are updated to 30 November 2025 (Paper 7: 31 May 2025), and the supplements carry the changes up to 31 May 2026, the cut-off for December exams. Paper 4 has no supplement.
- For Paper 7, use the standard Tax Laws and Practice file with its two supplements, not the one labelled “for June 2027 exam onwards”. ICSI says the Income Tax Act, 2025 does not apply to this session.
- The December 2026 supplements (seven PDFs covering six papers) run to 109 PDF pages against 5,298 pages of books. They are quick to read but cannot replace the books.
- Counting from 30 October to the first paper on 21 December, reading both groups once needs about 104 pages a day. That is our own estimate, with the working shown below.

The newest-looking Paper 7 file on ICSI's page is the wrong one for a December 2026 attempt. ICSI, the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, lists two Tax Laws and Practice books for the Company Secretary (CS) Executive Programme. The later one is built on the Income Tax Act, 2025, which ICSI says does not apply to the December 2026 session.
The mix-up comes from two different cut-off dates. Each ICSI book is frozen at a cut-off date well before the exam, while the exam applies the law as it stood on 31 May of the exam year. For each session, ICSI issues a short supplement that carries the changes in between.
A wrong edition means weeks spent on law the paper does not test, while the changes it does test sit in a supplement you never opened. Where to download it is the easy question. The harder one is which edition to download, and what to read beside it.
What is the right CS Executive study material for the December 2026 exam?
For December 2026, the right material is ICSI's seven Executive Programme books plus ICSI's December 2026 supplements. A supplement is a short ICSI PDF listing law changes made after a book's cut-off date. Together they bring you to 31 May 2026, the cut-off ICSI applies to December examinations.
ICSI splits the Executive Programme into Group 1 (Papers 1 to 4) and Group 2 (Papers 5 to 7). Every supplement is labelled "Syllabus 2022", the current Executive syllabus. Each says it must be read with the book, not instead of it.
The rule that sets the exam cut-off sits in each book's preface: amendments to law made up to 31 May of the calendar year apply to December examinations. The same preface calls the book "basic material" to be read with the Bare Acts (the official text of each law), Rules, Regulations and case law. Treat the book as the spine and the supplement as the patch, not a complete answer.
Which Paper 7 file should you use for CS Executive in December 2026?
Use the standard Paper 7 "Tax Laws and Practice" file, the one with no year in its label, and read both Paper 7 supplements with it. Do not use the file labelled "for June 2027 exam onwards". ICSI's Executive Programme page lists both side by side.
The standard file is 1,072 pages and updated to 31 May 2025. The June 2027 file is 988 pages, carries the date 27 July 2026 in its file name, and is updated to 31 May 2026. It is written on the Income Tax Act, 2025 and the Income Tax Rules, 2026, and uses the term "tax year".
ICSI's Direct Tax supplement is explicit for this session. It says the Finance Act, 2025 applies and the assessment year (the year after the income year in which tax is assessed) is 2026-27. It also says the Income Tax Act, 2025 "will not be applicable for December 2026 session of examination".
The Income Tax Department confirms the 2025 Act came into force on 1 April 2026. It adds that the 1961 Act still applies to tax years beginning before that date. Assessment year 2026-27 covers income of the year starting 1 April 2025. So the December 2026 paper is set on the Finance Act, 2025 and the 1961 Act; the June 2027 file is for later sessions.
If you have already started the June 2027 file, switch now. Re-check anything you have noted against the standard file and its supplements.
How much do the December 2026 supplements add to the ICSI books?
The December 2026 supplements add 109 PDF pages to 5,298 pages of books, about 2%. That makes them quick to read, but they amend only some lessons. They cannot replace the books.
Our counts: on 30 October 2026 we opened each of the seven book PDFs and the seven supplement PDFs listed on ICSI's pages and counted the pages. The counts include covers and indexes, so they run slightly above the pages of teaching text.
- Books: 588 + 880 + 728 + 852 + 592 + 586 + 1,072 = 5,298 pages. Group 1 is 3,048 pages and Group 2 is 2,250.
- Supplements: 7 + 8 + 16 + 39 + 14 + 5 + 20 = 109 pages.
Each supplement also tells you to keep up with notifications and circulars issued up to the cut-off. Those come from MCA (the Ministry of Corporate Affairs), SEBI (the securities regulator), RBI (the central bank) and the Central Government. For Paper 7 they come from CBDT (the direct tax board) and CBIC (the indirect tax board). On ICSI's rule, anything notified after 31 May 2026 falls outside the December 2026 cut-off, so you need not chase it for this attempt.
Paper 4, Corporate Accounting and Financial Management, has no supplement on ICSI's December 2026 supplements page. Use the base book, updated to 30 November 2025.

Which book and supplement do you need for each CS Executive paper?
Papers 1 to 6 each use their ICSI book updated to 30 November 2025, with a December 2026 supplement for Papers 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6. Paper 7 uses the standard file (updated to 31 May 2025) with two supplements. Paper 4 has none.
Page counts are ours, from the PDFs on ICSI's Executive Programme page and December 2026 supplements page, counted on 30 October 2026.

Run these four checks before you print or download anything. Each has a pass and a fail.
- Book cut-offOpen the preface and find the line "legislative changes made upto". Pass: it matches the "Book updated till" column in the table above. Fail: Paper 7 says May 31, 2026, which is the June 2027 file.
- Paper 7 labelPass: the label has no year. Fail: it says "for June 2027 exam onwards".
- Supplement coverPass: it says "for December, 2026 Examination" and updates from 1 December 2025 to 31 May 2026. Paper 7's two parts read 1 June 2025 to 31 May 2026. Fail: any other session.
- Amended lessonsPass: you read each amended lesson together with its supplement. Fail: you read the supplement alone, or skip it.
What else should you read beside ICSI's books and supplements?
Start with ICSI's books and supplements, then add other resources only when they solve a named problem, such as a lesson you cannot follow or too little practice. Extra books and notes can duplicate what ICSI already gives you and cut into the time you spend writing answers.
The most useful extra is free. ICSI publishes guideline answers to past Executive papers, which show the structure and depth the examiners expect. Write a past paper under timed conditions first, then compare your answer with ICSI's.
Reference books and notes from other publishers can help with a hard lesson or extra practice, but ICSI calls its own books basic material to be read with the Bare Acts, Rules, Regulations and case law. Before you rely on any note, check its date: it should cover law up to 30 November 2025 for Papers 1 to 6 and the Finance Act, 2025 for Paper 7, and it should include the December 2026 supplement. A note that skips the supplement is out of date for this session.
How many pages a day do you need to read before the CS Executive exam?
Divide the pages you must read by the days left to your first paper. With 52 days left, reading both groups once, supplements included, takes about 104 pages a day. Replace 52 with the days left to your own first paper in each group, using our CS Executive exam timetable.
This is our model, not an official figure. Pages are the PDF pages counted above, dated 30 October 2026. We added the supplement pages to each group and divided by 52 days, an example figure.

| Scope | Pages (books + supplements) | Pages a day with 52 days, one read |
|---|---|---|
| Group 1 (Papers 1 to 4) | 3,048 + 31 = 3,079 | 59 |
| Group 2 (Papers 5 to 7) | 2,250 + 78 = 2,328 | 45 |
| Both groups | 5,298 + 109 = 5,407 | 104 |
Use this formula for your own plan: pages in the papers you sit ÷ days left to your first paper. A second full read doubles the figure to 208 a day for both groups. In our view few people can sustain that alongside question practice. The sensible response is to treat one read as the floor and put your hours where marks are lost.
Read each supplement straight after the lesson it amends, so you learn the current rule once and never the old one first. For a week-by-week split, use our paper-by-paper CS Executive plan.
When are ICSI's books enough, and when does CS Executive coaching help?
The books plus supplements are enough content for most candidates. Coaching earns its fee when the problem is structure, not access: a timetable, someone to clear doubts, and practice under exam conditions. If your problem is only finding the right file, this page has already solved it.
We run CS Executive coaching, alongside CSEET (the Company Secretary Executive Entrance Test) and CS Professional, in blended, live online and onsite formats. Our CS Executive tuition is ₹50,000 as of October 2026. Courses include recordings, study materials, practice questions and mock tests, with doubt clearing, study planning and mentoring. We have trained 15,000+ students across professional commerce courses.
