Enrolled Agent Course in India: 7 Providers Compared

No. As of 23 October 2026, the IRS has not set a date for international candidates to schedule or sit the Special Enrollment Examination (SEE), the three-part test that leads to the enrolled agent credential. Scheduling was expected on 1 September 2026 and testing from 2 September 2026. Both were postponed (IRS enrolled agent news).

When testing resumes, international candidates sit the SEE remotely with a proctor, meaning an invigilator who watches you over webcam. The IRS's FAQ says that is the only international route. The test is run by PSI Services, the IRS's exam administrator, which replaced Prometric on 1 March 2026 (IRS enrolled agent news). Candidates in the United States can test from 1 July 2026 to 28 February 2027, and the exam is closed in March and April.

The three-year clock starts when you pass a part, so waiting costs you nothing until then. For international candidates whose passed parts expire after 1 May 2026, the IRS extends the period until international testing resumes.

The exam format is fixed:

• Three parts: Individuals, Businesses, and Representation, Practices and Procedures.
• 100 questions per part, of which 85 are scored and 15 are experimental.
• A scaled passing score of 500.
• Up to 4 attempts per part per testing window, with 24 hours between attempts at the same part.

Take it if you want a career in US federal tax. Skip it if your goal is Indian audit, Indian tax or company law. Enrolled agents have unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the IRS (IRS). The credential does not license you to practise Indian tax.

The IRS route has four steps:

1. Get a Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN).
2. Pass all three SEE parts within three years.
3. Apply for enrolment on Form 23 and pay the $140 fee.
4. Clear the IRS's tax-compliance and background check.

A degree is not one of the steps (IRS). To keep the status you must complete 72 hours of continuing professional education (CPE) every three years.

Total cost is the course fee in rupees plus $1,109.75 in official fees, which you pay in dollars. The course fee ranged from ₹24,999 (before 18% GST) to ₹1,20,000 across the six other providers that publish one on a course or pricing page, as of 23 October 2026.

The $317 is paid when you book each appointment and is non-refundable and non-transferable. Each retake needs a new appointment, so it costs another $317 (IRS FAQ).

Our model: Total in ₹ = course fee + (1,109.75 × your card's ₹ per dollar rate). Card issuers usually add a forex markup, so use your own card's rate. We assume ₹90 per dollar purely as an illustration, which gives ₹99,878 for the official fees. Add the ₹24,999 course (before GST) and you get ₹1,24,877. Add the ₹1,20,000 course and you get ₹2,19,878.

The published course fees, as read on 23 October 2026:

• Sankhya Academy: ₹24,999 plus 18% GST.
• Hi-Educare: ₹35,000, with group discounts.
• Saraf Academy: ₹43,999 and ₹58,999 across two plans; the page also prices Hock study materials at ₹19,999.
• JK Shah Classes: ₹45,000 (shown reduced from ₹55,000).
• Akpis Professionals: ₹55,000, ₹1,00,000 and ₹1,20,000 across three plans.
• ASAP Kerala: ₹65,000 for students, ₹75,000 standard, ₹85,000 fast-track.

Run six tests, and treat any fail as a reason to ask for the answer in writing before you pay. The IRS has changed the exam's administrator and delayed international dates in 2026, so a course page written earlier can be out of date.
