Enrolled Agent Exam Dates 2026-27 for Candidates in India

Enrolled agent exam dates: US candidates test between 1 July 2026 and 28 February 2027, but testing for candidates in India is delayed with no new date set as of October 2026.

Key takeaways

  • As of 14 October 2026, the IRS has not set a date for candidates in India to book or sit the EA exam. The 1 July 2026 to 28 February 2027 window applies to US domestic candidates.
  • International testing is remote only, and the exam is run by PSI Services, the IRS's testing company since 1 March 2026 (it replaced Prometric, the earlier testing company).
  • Use the wait to apply for a Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN, the IRS's ID number for tax preparers) and to study. If you pass every part first time, the IRS fees come to $1,109.75, charged in dollars.
  • Book each part when you are ready rather than saving all three for the end, because the IRS has not said how long the international window will run.

The Enrolled Agent (EA) exam has no exam day. You book an appointment inside a testing window (the period in which you may book and sit exam parts), so the slot you choose matters more than any calendar date.

Each of the three parts of the Special Enrollment Examination (SEE) costs $317, paid when you book, according to the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Cancel or reschedule late and you pay the full fee again, so every slot is a decision with a price.

The format changes how you prepare as well. Candidates outside the US sit the exam at home, watched by a proctor (an invigilator who watches your session by webcam), so your internet connection, desk and room need rehearsing as much as the syllabus. Our view: full mock papers taken under those conditions are worth as much as another chapter of revision.

Because the rules for candidates in India differ from the US ones, read the dates below against your own situation before you pay for anything.

What are the enrolled agent exam dates for 2026-27?

The testing window for US candidates runs from 1 July 2026 to 28 February 2027, as of 14 October 2026. Testing is unavailable in March and April while the exam is updated, so the exam is not open all year. PSI Services has administered the exam since 1 March 2026, according to the IRS.

Can you take the enrolled agent exam in India right now?

No. The IRS FAQ, with its international notice updated on 21 August 2026, says scheduling and testing for international candidates, which includes candidates in India, is "temporarily delayed" and that new start dates have not been determined. Only the IRS can announce when booking opens, so check its enrolled agent FAQ before you pay for anything that depends on a date.

When it reopens, you will sit from home. The IRS states that international testing "will only be available remotely with a proctor" and that there is no in-person international testing, so there is no exam centre in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi or anywhere else in India.

Remote sitting has three requirements: one original, unexpired government photo ID showing your name, photo and signature; a webcam; and acceptance that the whole session is recorded, from check-in to completion.

If you have already passed a part, the delay helps you. The IRS has extended the three-year carryover for international candidates whose passed parts expire after 1 May 2026, until international testing resumes.

What should you do while international EA testing is paused?

Work on the things that do not depend on the reopening date: your PTIN, your study and your budget. The reopening date will only decide when you book, not what you need to have ready.

Study, paperwork and budgeting can all move forward while the reopening date stays unknown.

No PTIN yetApply early. The IRS lists getting a PTIN as the first of four steps to becoming an EA, but it does not say you must hold one to book an exam part. Paper applications on Form W-12 (the IRS paper PTIN application) take about 6 weeks.Waiting for an international date before applying

File Form W-12 with Form 8946 (the PTIN supplement for people without a US Social Security number); read the Form W-12 instructions

Our recommendation, not an IRS rule: book each part as soon as you are ready. The IRS has not said how long the international window will run, and March and April are blackout months.

How much does the enrolled agent exam cost in rupees?

Each part costs $317, paid when you book, and you also pay $18.75 for a PTIN and $140 to apply for enrolment once you pass (IRS, as of October 2026). Passing every part first time therefore costs $1,109.75, before card or foreign-exchange charges, and each resit adds another $317.

Our enrolled agent exam fees guide converts these into rupees, prices resits and shows how to check a coaching quote. Our coaching fees are separate: ask us for the current EA fee and batch schedule.

How do you book an EA exam slot without losing a fee?

Book through PSI at test-takers.psigov.us/irs, or call 913-456-7498 from outside the US (7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern time, Monday to Friday), as listed on the IRS vendor page. Then follow these four rules, all from the IRS FAQ:

  • The fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. You pay $317 per part when you book.
  • Reschedule or cancel at least 48 hours ahead and there is no charge. Less than 48 hours means a full new fee.
  • You get four attempts per part per testing window, and you must wait 24 hours before retaking the same part.
  • Pass all three parts within three years. The IRS's enrolment steps set this limit, and each passed part carries over for up to three years from the date you passed it.

Our view: do not book a part until you have sat a full-length timed mock for it, because a late reschedule costs another $317.

A young woman at a laptop checks her booking carefully with a phone and headset beside her.
Booking is a careful, step-by-step task, because a fee paid for the wrong slot cannot be refunded or moved.

How do we prepare candidates for the enrolled agent exam?

We run EA coaching for all three SEE parts at our Jayanagar and Malleshwaram centres in Bengaluru, and live online for candidates anywhere. Formats are onsite, live online and blended. You get recordings, study materials, practice questions and mock tests, plus doubt clearing and study planning.

We also guide you through PTIN registration, so the paperwork is done before reopening day. Our programme takes 6 to 9 months for all three parts, and we have trained 16,000+ students across CA, CS, CMA, ACCA and other commerce courses.

Because the exam date is open, we suggest you visit a free demo class and talk to a career adviser before you pay. Our fees, once paid, are not refunded, so confirm the batch schedule first. To see how the credential pays after you qualify, read Enrolled Agent salary in India. If you are comparing US credentials, see CMA USA exam fees in rupees.

Frequently asked questions

No. All international EA testing is remote, so candidates in India sit at home rather than at a centre in Bangalore or any other city.
The IRS has not announced a date as of 14 October 2026. It says new start dates have not been determined, so watch the IRS enrolled agent FAQ, where any announcement will appear.
The scaled passing score is 500 for each part. Each part has 100 questions, of which 85 are scored, and runs for 3.5 hours. The three parts are Individuals, Businesses, and Representation, Practices and Procedures.

The IRS lists getting a PTIN as the first of four steps to becoming an enrolled agent (IRS steps), but it does not say you must hold one to book an exam part. Apply early anyway: paper Form W-12 applications take about 6 weeks.

A passed part carries over for up to three years from the date you passed it, and you must pass all three parts within that period.
