Minimalist ACCA Ethics and Professional Skills Module (EPSM) guide by iProledge featuring a professional ACCA EPSM handbook, scales of justice, and key themes such as ethics, professional judgment, and career success in a clean modern design.

If you’re on the road to ACCA Affiliate status, there’s one thing you can’t miss: the Ethics and Professional Skills Module, or EPSM.

It’s not a test like you’re used to. There is no pass or fail in the usual sense. But it is compulsory, and if you leave it too late, it can delay your claim to affiliate status. So let's get into what it is and how to navigate it without the last-minute stress.

What is the EPSM really?

You know what it is

It's an online, completion-based module, so you are not graded with a score as you are in normal ACCA exams. Instead, you engage in interactive scenarios that develop your ethical reasoning as a future accounting professional.

Think of it less as an exam and more as a structured professional training that ACCA requires before you can call yourself an affiliate.

What is covered in the EPSM?

Some areas are covered, all with the ultimate goal of thinking like a professional, not a test taker:

Professional, Scepticism

Learn to be sceptical about information rather than believe everything you read. This is the mindset accountants need every day in real practice.

Value vs Morality

This one is about the pressure. What happens when a client or your employer wants something that goes against what is ethically right? The module takes you through these tensions in a realistic way.

Popularity

Why your personal reputation and your organization's reputation are important and how quickly bad judgment calls can destroy both.

Ethical problems

Real, messy situations where there is no clear “right” answer. You work through them step by step, just as you would in actual practice.

Code of Ethics for the ACCA

And you practice applying the five core principles directly:

  • Honesty Impartiality

  • Professional Competence and Due Care

  • Confidentiality

  • Professional Behaviour

These five principles are not just theory here – you apply them to scenarios so they really sink in.

What Does The Module Really Look Like?

You can get to it through the myACCA portal. Inside, you will find case studies, short video scenarios, and reflection activities where you write your own responses and knowledge checks throughout.

Plan on spending a total of 20-30 hours to get through the whole thing. This is not a sit-down-and-read-it-all-at-once book; break it down into manageable chunks.

When Should You Begin the EPSM?

Technically, you can start the process at any point in your ACCA studies. But here’s the real advice that matters—start early, ideally at your applied skills level.

You know why? If you leave it until the end, just as you finish your last exam, it can hold up your affiliate status. You would rather not pass your final paper and then be left waiting for the EPSM to be completed before ACCA can formally recognize you as an Affiliate.

Start it early, while you’re preparing for your exams. You can do it between your exam preparations. That way it’s a lot less stressful.

How Do You Access It and What Do You Need?

To access your portal, go to the myACCA portal, log in, and find the Ethics and Professional Skills Module section. And there it is, once you log in.

Some technical tips: Use a modern web browser and make sure you have enabled JavaScript. The interactive elements don’t work well with older browsers. Technically, you can do it on a mobile, but a desktop is honestly better, especially for the written reflection exercises where proper typing is important.

Would it be possible to fail the EPSM?

Not in the traditional sense, as there is no pass/fail score like a regular exam. But it must be completed in its entirety, and ACCA will review your reflection activities.

If your written reflections lack sufficient genuine engagement—too short, too generic, obviously rushed—you may be asked to resubmit them. So do take the reflection parts seriously. Write genuine, thoughtful responses, not just what gets you through the screen.

Is EPSM available in India?

Yes. Totally. It is fully online and accessible from any part of India, and the content is the same in all regions. Indian ACCA students do the same module as students anywhere else in the world.

FAQs

Q1. Can you fail the ACCA EPSM?

It is not assessed in the usual pass/fail sense. There is no numerical score. However, it has to be done in full, and ACCA looks at your reflection activities. If they feel there isn’t enough engagement, they may ask you to resubmit that part before you can move on to the next module.

Q2. Is the EPSM available for ACCA students in India?

Yeah, totally. The module is completely online and is available in India with no regional variations in the content. The EPSM is the same for Indian students as for ACCA students elsewhere.

Q3. How long does the ACCA EPSM take to complete?

The EPSM is designed to take around 20 to 30 hours all up. It is not meant to be done all at once—most students spread it out over a few weeks alongside their normal exam preparation.

Q4. When is the best time to start the EPSM?

ACCA recommends beginning at your Applied Skills level, rather than at the end of your studies. Getting an early start will help you avoid the risk of the module pushing back your affiliate status right after you pass your last exam.

Q5. What do I need to complete the EPSM?

You will need access to the myACCA portal, a current web browser with JavaScript enabled, and ideally a desktop computer—particularly for the written reflection activities. You can access it on mobile, but a desktop is recommended for a smoother experience of the written sections.
