The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) offers a professional program of study called the CS (Company Secretary). It aims to provide individuals with the information and abilities needed to become company secretaries, who play an important role in business regulation and accountability. The CS program is divided into three levels: Foundation, Executive, and Professional.

CS Exam Curriculum

A CS Course comes with 3 Levels and they are, 
This includes four subjects of 200 Marks each, with each exam lasting two hours.

CSEET online classes -  CSEET preparation -  CSEET subjects  - CSEET Coaching 

Mode of Examination: The examination mode can be either Remote Proctored Mode or any other mode determined by the Council.

The Executive program consists of two groups with seven subjects each, carrying 100 marks. The exam duration for each exam is three hours.



The final exam in Company Secretary consists of seven papers of 100 marks exam divided into two groups. The examination for each subject will be of three hours duration.



To pass the CS Foundation/Executive/Professional Programme, a candidate must score a minimum of 40% in each exam and 50% in the aggregate of all subjects in a single sitting.

CS Exam Eligibility Criteria in India 



Examination for Senior Secondary (10+2) Candidates with a pass in the Arts, Science, and Commerce Streams (excluding Fine Arts) are eligible for admission.



  • CS Foundation Programme Pass.

  • Candidates should pass the Foundation Examination of The Institute of Cost Accountants of India.

  • Candidates should pass the Common Proficiency Test (CPT) of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI)

  • Candidates from Arts, Science, Commerce Graduates/ Post Graduates (excluding Fine Arts) are eligible for admission 

  • Candidates must be at least 17 years old.

  • Candidates possessing any of the following qualifications are exempted from passing CS Foundation Programme:
    a) A bachelor's or master's degree in  Corporate Secretaryship or Commerce; or
    b) Pass the ICAI (Cost) or ICAI or any other Accountancy Institution in India or abroad recognized as equivalent by the Council; or
    c) A bachelor's or master's degree in a field other than fine arts.



A candidate for this level must have completed the foundation and executive levels successfully.

1. What is the average time it takes to become a Company Secretary?

Ans:   In the best-case scenario, when a student passes all of the examinations in one sitting, the CS degree will take about three years to complete. He/she can take the CSEET immediately after finishing 10+2; after one year, he/she can opt to take the CS Executive; and after completing Executive, he/she can take the CS Professional Exams throughout the 21-month training period.

2. What is the minimum age for applying in the CS program?
Ans: Candidates must be at least 17 years old before taking the CS Executive examination, according to the ICSI qualifying guidelines. However, there is no upper age limit for applying to the CS program. It should be noted that a person is only eligible for Associate Membership in the Institute after reaching the age of 21. In brief, no one may obtain a CS Degree before the age of 21, even if they present and pass the examinations.

3. When should someone pursue a career as a CS (Company Secretary)?
Ans:   Anyone who approaches problems more theoretically might want to pursue a career in CS. Furthermore, anyone with an interest in law should take the CS examination because it includes key areas such as corporate law, SEBI law, IBC law, and other laws.
