Admission Process
Most Indian colleges select students for ACCA based on merit or entrance exams (written tests) that may or may not be conducted by the university themselves. The- requirements may differ from university to university.
Merit-Based Admissions
Following is the step wise admission process followed by merit-based admission colleges:
Step 1 - Submit Application: The students will have to carefully fill out and submit the respective university’s application form, either online or offline (some only accept online applications, and some allow both) .
Step 2 - Upload Documents: Scan and upload all the necessary documents required for admission and verification.
Step 3 – Pay Application Fee: After uploading the documents, students are required to pay the application fee through online payment portal Or through offline cheque, DD, etc. The fee may vary from college to college. You will receive your application number through SMS or email.
Step 4 - Review of Application and Shortlisting Candidates: The admission team at the university will then review students’ applications and see if they fit the eligibility criteria and then shortlist the students. The students will then be called to join group discussions and give personal interviews.
Step 5 - Group Discussions and Personal Interviews: Some universities conduct group discussions and personal interviews so that they can get an idea of the candidate’s nature and background in regard to what the university wants from its students. Once the student confidently sails through both the rounds, he/she is ready for the course.
Entrance Exam Based Admission
The institutes granting admission on the basis of entrance exams follow the admission process given below:
Step 1 - Submit Application: The students will have to carefully fill out and submit the respective university’s application form, either online or offline (some only accept online applications, and some allow both).
Step 2 - Upload Documents: Scan and upload all the necessary documents required for admission and verification.
Step 3 – Application/Entrance Exam Fee: After uploading the documents, students are required to pay the application fee or the fee for attempting the entrance exams through online payment portal or through offline cheque, DD, etc. The fee may vary from college to college. You will receive your application number through SMS or email.
Step 4 - Register for Entrance Exam: If the university that the student has applied to does not directly register the student for the entrance exam, it is the student’s responsibility to register well before the deadline.
Step 5 - Entrance Exam Results & Shortlisting of Candidates: The university will shortlist the candidates on the basis of entrance exam scores. The shortlisted candidates will be called for further verification.
Step 6 - Personal Interviews and Document Verification: Only the shortlisted candidates will be called for this round. The candidates found eligible will be granted admission to the course after all their documents are verified by the university.
Course Eligibility in India
The eligibility criteria for studying and attempting ACCA exams are as follows:
The candidates must be at least 18 years of age, and must complete 10+2 as a minimum required qualification.
A minimum of 65% is required in Accounts or Mathematics and English, in grade 12 exams.
Students should have scored 50% in their other subjects.
Course Details
The ACCA syllabus is divided into 3 levels i.e. Knowledge, Skills and Professional. There are a total of 13 ACCA Papers that are divided as follows:
Knowledge Level: 3 ACCA Papers
Skills Level: 6 ACCA Papers
Professional Level: 4 ACCA Papers (2 compulsory and 2 choice based)
The ACCA course provides for the 3 levels:
Diploma in Accounting & Business for clearing the Knowledge Level
Advance Diploma in Accounting & Business for clearing the Skills Level
Professional Level Certificate & ACCA Affiliate Status for clearing the Professional Level ACCA exam
The participant is also eligible to apply for a 'B.Sc. in Applied Accounting' awarded by Oxford Brookes University on submitting a theses after completing the Skills level ACCA exam. The affiliate can also apply for an 'M.Sc. in Professional Accountancy' awarded by the University of London on appearing for 1 additional exam paper and submitting a theses after the Professional level ACCA exam.
